Why does the Hallow App recruit Hollywood celebrities for prayer campaigns?

In the interview, Jones tells Burkepile why Hallow recruits celebrities for their prayer campaigns and app features.

He says the purpose is to reach fallen-away Catholics or those who are not particularly religious.

Jones says the people most difficult to reach "don't stop scrolling" social media because of his face, or even a priest or nun's face, but they will stop for a Hollywood celebrity.

"They will stop for Mark [Walberg's] face and they'll be like, 'Who's that? Wait, I recognize that guy from the movies,'" Jones explains.

Other celebrities who participate in Hallow App promotions include Jim Caviezel, Kevin James, Mario Lopez, and Bethany Joy Lenz, to name a few.

"That's really what it's all about - trying to partner with these folks to reach out to those who wouldn't be Googling Catholic or Christian things, aren't reading Christian media, aren't following Christian media, and aren't going to church, and so they're really hard folks to reach out to," he continues.

"It's been such an honor for us to partner with these folks to use their platform to reach out to people and invite them into a relationship with the Lord," Jones says.

How the Hallow App recruited Gwen Stefani

Jones also reveals how the Hallow App recruited singer Gwen Stefani to help with the Advent Pray25 Prayer Challenge.

Stefani is the lead singer and co-founder of the rock group, No Doubt. She has almost 18 million followers on Instagram alone.

Jones explains that "not many celebrities" "talk about their faith or post about it publicly," adding that it "takes courage to really jump out."

"It's finding some sort of partnership, some sort of content, some sort of meditation that they get excited about that--we get excited about that," he says.

"We've been having conversations with Gwen [Stefani] and Kevin [James] and all the folks who are in the challenge for a while now and they've just blown us away," Jones elaborated. "They're just incredible Christians, they're great people of faith, and it is awesome for us to get to partner with them, to use their platforms to invite people into prayer."
