Transformers Actor Shia LaBeouf Surprises Priestly Discernment Retreat With FaceTime Call

Transformers actor Shia LaBeouf surprised Capuchin Franciscan retreat participants discerning the priesthood with an encouraging FaceTime phone call.

LaBeouf recently worked with the Capuchins while filming his movie portraying St. Padre Pio.

Fr. Hai Ho, OFM, of the Franciscan Capuchins in Burlingame, Cali. shared on Wed., Jan 26 that LaBeouf “made a cameo appearance” at their Come & See Weekend discernment retreat.

The actor FaceTimed the Capuchins, offering encouragement to eight men discerning their religious vocation.

“He shared a bit about his recent experience filming the Padre Pio movie as well,” Fr. Ho wrote. “It was a fun surprise and the candidates got a glimpse of just how Padre Pio’s example is an inspiration for so many.”

Fr. Ho told ChurchPOP told that LaBeouf told the candidates that “he is praying for them.”

“Shia knew they were men interested in religious life,” Fr. Ho said. “After greeting some of the brothers that he already knew, he said hi to the candidates and said that he is praying for them.”
