"They Were All Praying": Gunman Kills Four People at Daily Mass in Brazil Cathedral
Please pray for all those involved in this horrible tragedy!
A man opened fire during Mass early this afternoon at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Conception in Campinas, Brazil, killing five people. The fire department said he also severely wounded four elderly people.
According to Brazil’s GloboNews, Mass began at 12:15 p.m. The man entered the cathedral at 1:00 p.m., firing 20 shots.
He then committed suicide.
The shooter had two guns, but used one. Witness Alexandre Moraes said the incident “was frightful…He entered and shot randomly at people. They were all praying.”
He added, “Most were elderly, innocent people, and the suspect ended up firing on all these people. The scene is desperate; a very great tragedy.”
The Archdiocese of Campinas issued the following statement on their Facebook page:
The post reads, “A shooting left at least five dead people and four other wounds in the early afternoon of this Tuesday (11), within the metropolitan Cathedral of Campinas, in the city centre, according to information from the fire department.
“We don’t know the motivation yet.
“The Cathedral is closed for victim service and police investigation. Once we have more information, we will make it available. We count on everyone’s prayers at this moment of deep pain.”
The archdiocese scheduled a press conference for later today.
Let us pray for all involved, especially the poor souls who died and their loved ones. 📿🙏
