Vatican Announces Details of Pope Francis' First Meeting with President Trump
The Holy See Press Office announced on Thursday that Pope Francis will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Vatican on May 24th.
Trump is visiting Italy to participate in the G7 summit in Sicily. He also plans to visit Belgium, Israel, and Saudi Arabia on the same trip.
Their meeting will take place early in the morning at 8:30am, before the pontiff’s normal general audience on Wednesdays.
On his return flight back from Egypt in late April, a reporter asked Pope Francis if he planned on meeting Trump during his trip to Italy.
“I still have not been informed by the Secretariat of State if there has been a request,” Pope Francis responded at the time, “but I receive every head of state who asks for an audience.”
So, since then, Trump has apparently formally requested a meeting.
Say a prayer for their meeting!
