On Fri, March 25, Pope Francis consecrated Russia, Ukraine, and all of humanity to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Some people raised concerns that the consecration prayer alluded to the Pachamama. However, this is not the case. Vatican News explained the prayer’s origins.

Various translations of the prayer, including Spanish and Portuguese, refer to Our Lady as “You, Land (or Earth) of Heaven.” Vatican Dicastery for Communication Andrea Tornielli clarified the meaning of this salutation.

“The expression ‘Earth of Heaven’ is taken from a Byzantine-Slavic monastic hymn, and it poetically signifies the union of heaven and earth that we can contemplate in Mary assumed bodily into Heaven,” Vatican News reported.

The article also explains the additional Marian expressions, including Pope Francis’ invocation of Mary, Undoer of Knots.

He also alluded to the “Salve Regina”, St. Bernard’s prayer, “Virgin Mother, Daughter of your Son,” and the “Treatise on True Devotion” of St. Louis de Montfort.
