Transitional Deacon Dixie Ballesteros Hernández of the Archdiocese of San Pedro Sula in Honduras could not contain his emotions as he distributed the Body of Christ to the faithful immediately after receiving Holy Orders.
The video moved internet users to tears!
Deacon Hernández is studying for the priesthood. A few weeks ago, he took an important step toward fully fulfilling his vocation: he was ordained to the transitional diaconate. The ceremony occurred on March 1, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
One moment deeply touched the faithful: when the newly ordained deacon appeared visibly moved while distributing Holy Communion. Unable to hold back tears, the faithful consoled and supported him.
The ordination ceremony was broadcast on the RADIO LUZ - The Voice That Illuminates You Facebook page.
Deacon Hernández shared photos of this special day on social media and highlighted:
"I am a deacon, not because of merit, but because God continues to use imperfect instruments to communicate his perfect grace. I am a deacon by the grace of God."
The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the function of deacons:
Since the beginning, the ordained ministry has been conferred and exercised in three degrees: that of bishops, that of presbyters, and that of deacons. The ministries conferred by ordination are irreplaceable for the organic structure of the Church: without the bishop, presbyters, and deacons, one cannot speak of the Church." (CCC 1593)
"Deacons are ministers ordained for tasks of service of the Church; they do not receive the ministerial priesthood, but ordination confers on them important functions in the ministry of the word, divine worship, pastoral governance, and the service of charity, tasks which they must carry out under the pastoral authority of their bishop." ( CCC 1596 ).
