Mexico Unearths Missing 10-Ton Our Lady of Guadalupe Sculpture Blessed By St. John Paul II
What a beautiful and amazing discovery!
Monterrey, Mexico unearthed a missing sculpture of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Thurs., Aug. 6.
The 10-ton sculpture went missing 10 years ago after Hurricane Alex, and was found on the banks of the Santa Catarina River after Hurricane Hanna. The image initially sat where St. John Paul II celebrated Mass during his 1990 Monterrey visit. He also blessed the sculpture.
The city of Monterrey unearthed the missing 42-foot-tall metal sculpture on Aug. 6.
Monterrey Mayor Adrián de la Garza posted a video of the unearthing to his twitter account. He said the “rescue of the Virgin of Guadalupe represents a message of hope” for their community.

Archdiocese of Monterrey Bishop Alfonso Miranda also celebrated the sculpture’s discovery in a Twitter post.

The translated tweet reads, “I look at her as a giant warrior after a long battle, who, having lost her, was later rescued, healing her many wounds in the same bed; for very soon, rehabilitated and strengthened, to stand up again, to encourage us to face this battle.”
