November 5, 2024, will mark the official election day for the United States, where voters will not only decide on several ballot initiatives that will impact their state and communities but also a new president.
The popular Catholic prayer app Hallow took to Instagram on Monday, October 28, to announce its new prayer challenge this upcoming election week to its 769,000 followers.
With thousands of people feeling angry, frustrated, and worried, what better way to prepare than by prayer?
"Band of Brothers" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" actor Neal McDonough will kick off the Hallow prayer challenge on November 4.
Each day will feature a different Catholic voice, and on Thursday, you’ll hear from EWTN News COO Montse Alvarado. The app will also feature Father Josh Johnson, Father Dave Pivonka, T.O.R., of Franciscan University, Katie McGrady, and Sister Norma Patel, MJ.
In the video, McDonough states,
“It is an honor to be joining you during this election week. Tomorrow [November 5] across the United States, we will be exercising our important civic duty - our right and duty to vote and designating the people who will be clothed with the important trust of governing our country, our states, and our local communities. These past few weeks and months in our country have been filled with debate, with passion and often with fear, and with anger. It’s important to engage in civic discourse and to debate important issues but too often we forget to bring prayer into it. Jesus Himself taught us that a Kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, so let us today pray together for our country, for our communities, and for our leaders.”
Hallow states in the caption,
“In this prayer challenge, we’ll reflect on inspiring quotes from our Founding Fathers, meditate on powerful words of Sacred Scripture, and hear beautiful reflections on what it means to put God first during this time.”
Instagram users thanked Hallow in the comments saying, “Thank you Hallow! Peace be with you!”
Another user shared, “Yayayay! So excited!! Thank you for sharing your faith and your journey!”
Many others commented, “Amen” and used prayer hand emojis.
In his personal Instagram post, Father Josh Johnson shared Hallow’s video, stating,
“Election season is here, and it can be easy to be overwhelmed, worried, anxious, angry, and stressed. In the midst of it all, let’s remember to focus on the King of kings, Jesus. Join us as we pray for our country this upcoming election week with our new prayer challenge, One Nation Under God. We know that we must pray for our country. We know that we must put God first ahead of politics. Let’s take this duty seriously as we all pray that God’s will be done this election season.”
Being an American is an honor and privilege, as countless men and women have lost their lives fighting for our freedoms. Voting, though at times may be overwhelming, is our civic duty. Please consider participating in this prayer challenge on November 4th."
