Are you getting signs from God and do you know how to discern them?
On this episode of "The Catholic Talk Show," Ryan Scheel and Ryan Dellacrosse speak with Father Mac Hill about how God uses signs to comfort and inspire people.
They discuss the beauty of discernment, the importance of prayerful trust, and how sacramentals can help us recognize God’s guidance!
Father Mac explains signs from God are everywhere, but recognizing them requires a heart listening to His voice. They are deeply personal, often tailored to each individual and their circumstances.
“He knows how we tick, our life experiences, and what’s important to us,” he says.
Whether in Scripture, prayer, or unexpected moments in daily life, God’s signs are invitations to trust in His providence.
Sometimes, the signs we need are already present in the Church’s rich sacramental tradition.
“Holy water is a sign—it’s a sign of the grace of baptism,” Scheel says.
Blessed candles, crucifixes, and sacred novenas are other great ways to anchor us in God’s grace and open our hearts to Him.
However, prayer should always be the foundation for discerning God’s signs.
Father Mac says to “start with just ordinary prayer: ‘Lord, I’ve got this on my mind, show me the right way.’”
It’s not meant to be a shortcut to the faith, so seeking clarity through prayer and consulting with spiritual advisors can help you avoid slipping into superstition.
Ultimately, any signs should always point us back to God and His will for our lives.
“If it leads you to a deeper love of God and a sacrificial love of neighbor, it’s worth trying out,” Father Mac says.
The guys say that sometimes God’s voice is found in silence, and at other times, in subtle signs!
