February 13, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Servant of God Sister Maria Lúcia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart.

Sister Lúcia de Jesus Rosa dos Santos, OCD, was one of the three shepherd children of the Marian apparitions at Fatima. She lived until she was 97 years old. Her cause for canonization is ongoing.

Although she lived most of her life behind the private walls of a Carmelite convent, Sister Lúcia gifted the world with a wealth of timeless wisdom.

Below you will find four powerful quotes from Sister Lúcia:

“Hell is a reality. It is a supernatural fire and not physical. It cannot be compared to fire that burns wood or charcoal… Continue preaching about Hell because Our Lord himself spoke about Hell, and it is in Sacred Scripture. God does not condemn anyone to Hell. God gave men the liberty to choose, and God respects this human liberty.”
“Small thorns can cause greater pain than large ones, for it depends on where they hurt. Our lives are strewn with large and small sufferings, most of which come from people with no intention of hurting us. This inevitably happens in all forms of life.”
“Since we all need to pray, God asks of us, as a kind of daily installment, a prayer which is within our reach: the Rosary, which can be recited either in common or in private, either in church in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament or at home, either with the rest of the family or alone, either when traveling or while walking quietly in the fields. A mother of a family can say the Rosary while she rocks her baby’s cradle or does the housework. Our day has 24 hours in it. It is not asking a great deal to set aside a quarter of an hour for the spiritual life, for our intimate and familiar converse with God.”
“The decisive battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan will be over marriage and the family.”

Here is a prayer for the beatification of Sister Lúcia:

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore you profoundly and I thank you for the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima that revealed to the world the riches of her Immaculate Heart. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I implore You, if it should be for Your greater glory and the good of our souls, to glorify Sr. Lucia, one of the Shepherds of Fatima, by granting us the grace which we implore through her intercession. Amen.
