Don't Give Up on Prayer: What St. Faustina Said About the Power of Prayer in Suffering
Never give up praying!
On this week’s episode of The Catholic Talk Show, Ryan Scheel, Fr. Rich Pagano, and Ryan DellaCrosse discuss 5 Things You Get Wrong About Prayer with Hallow App CEO Alex Jones.
In this clip, Fr. Rich Pagano explains how God works through our suffering when we pray.
“What St. Faustina teaches about prayer through suffering or desolation–that it is precisely where God is most actively in communion with the soul. It’s very, very ordinary to the human person, that when we are suffering, we receive. When we are suffering, we feel isolated.
“It’s precisely that in showing God’s mercy to humanity that he descends so deeply to the human heart that he desires to enter into the most desolate place. Isn’t that contextualized in Jesus’ mission in the desert, where he overcomes the temptations of the devil.
“Why is he doing that? He’s doing that for the sake of humanity at its deepest, most desolate, dark, isolated place. Ultimately, I find that the greatest catalyst to intimacy is through suffering with Christ, because Christ is here with us to suffer with us in God’s compassion.”
Listen to this week’s episode below:
Jesus said to St. Faustina, “My child, you please Me most by suffering. In your physical as well as your mental sufferings, My daughter, do not seek sympathy from creatures.
“I want the fragrance of your suffering to be pure and unadulterated. I want you to detach yourself, not only from creatures, but also from yourself. My daughter, I want to delight in the love of your heart, a pure love, virginal, unblemished, untarnished.
“The more you will come to love suffering, My daughter, the purer your love for Me will be”. (Diary 279)
