An employee of Loyola Marymount University is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department for a possible hate crime for “denying transgenderism.”
According to The College Fix, a few students were posting signs for “Rainbow Week” when the employee approached them and engaged them in conversation. In their conversation, she told them that transgenderism was unnatural and that only two genders, male and female, exist.
One of the students, who identifies as gender-neutral, later said that such a claim constituted a hate crime. “You can have your opinion,” the student told the Fix, as long as it doesn’t “deny my existence.”
The students reported the conversation to the University, which passed it on to their Bias Incident Response Team as well as the LAPD. The employee has already been suspended while the investigation is in progress.
According to its website, Loyola Marymount University is “institutionally committed to Roman Catholicism and takes its fundamental inspiration from the combined heritage of the Jesuits, the Marymount Sisters, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.”
Yet, the Catholic Church teaches the very viewpoint being deemed hate speech, namely that the existence of only two genders is a fact of nature. This was confirmed by Pope Francis in his recent Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia (56), was taught by his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI, and is found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
