Wednesday, March 5, marks the first day of the 2025 Lenten season. Social media users recognized this important day in the Catholic Church with posts about their Ash Wednesday ashes.

Ash Wednesday ashes signify the need for repentance of sins and are a call to humility before God.

Catholic celebrities, including Mark Wahlberg, Patricia Heaton, David Henrie, and Jonathan Roumie honored this first day of Lent with special social media posts for their followers.

Here’s what some Catholic celebrities said about Ash Wednesday:

Sitting at a desk with ashes on his forehead, Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg published a video of himself making the Sign of the Cross and wishing his followers a “HAPPY ASH WEDNESDAY 🙏❤️🙏.”

Three-time Grammy award-winning singer Gwen Stefani also published a photo of herself wearing ashes on Wednesday evening in her Instagram story. She wished her followers "a blessed Lent."

Actor and television host Mario Lopez, also a Catholic, published a video inside a Catholic Church after he attended Ash Wednesday Mass.

Actress Patricia Heaton also published an Ash Wednesday social media post.

Sitting in her car, Heaton published a photo of herself wearing ashes. The caption reads, “Happy Ash Wednesday! #ashwednesday #ashes”.

Disney star and Catholic actor David Henrie also published his annual Ash Wednesday social media post. He posted two photos - one with his wife, Maria, the other with his brother, Lorenzo.

The caption reads,

“A blessed Ash Wednesday and lent to you all. '...for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return'. #lent here we go 💪🔥. Talk to me people, what are we doing to strip away our old self and make way for the new? #ashtag”.

Actors Jonathan Roumie and Chris Pratt joined Hallow’s Alex Jones for a livestream about Ash Wednesday and Lent on Wednesday morning. Roumie and Jones both wore their ashes. Singer Gwen Stefani commented on the post, saying, “Love u guys!! Gx”.
