Bill Murray's Sister is a Dominican Nun With a Traveling Show of St. Catherine of Siena
Bill Murray is one of the most beloved comics and actors of the last few decades. He was a regular on Saturday Night Live and starred in Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day.
He was also one of nine children in a Catholic family (and misses the old Latin Mass!).
But he wasn’t the only actor in his family. At least four of his siblings act – including one that is also a Dominican nun.
Meet Sr. Nancy Murray, an Adrian Dominican sister.
The Adrian Dominicans (also known as a Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary) are a Catholic religious congregation based out of Michigan serving the Church in world in a wide variety of contexts, including universities, hospitals, and the arts.
Sr. Murray became known for her great portrayal of St. Catherine of Siena in her one-woman shows. Catherine of Siena is not only one of the Church’s greatest saints, but is also a Doctor of the Church.
The website of the Adrian Dominicans describes Sr. Murray’s performances like this:
Nancy Murray, OP, is making her mark on audiences across the country and throughout the world, bringing to life the Dominican saint Catherine of Siena, Doctor of the Church. With simple props and a fertile imagination, Sister Nancy portrays Catherine as the colorful, strong, passionate and enthusiastic personality that she was. Thanks to Sister Nancy’s gift of transforming herself into this 14th century saint and patroness of the Dominican Order, numerous churches, schools and organizations have become acquainted with Catherine’s fierce devotion to and love for God.
Their website also has information about buying a DVD of one of her performances.
Here’s a video that shows a few clips from one of her shows
