Alyssa Milano revealed in a recent podcast that she had two abortions in 1993, saying it “put her in conflict with her Catholic faith.”
The 46-year-old Who’s the Boss actress said her life “would be completely lacking all its great joys” had she kept her two aborted children.
She said she “was in love for the first time,” and it was an “overwhelming,” “joyful, exciting, and powerful time in my life.”
Milano explained that she took birth control because “I knew I was not ready to be a parent.”
However, she “still got pregnant” while taking the pill.

Milano described her pregnancies as “devastating,” denouncing the Catholic faith
“I was raised Catholic and suddenly put in conflict with my faith–a faith I was coming to realize empowered only men to make every single decision about what was allowed and not allowed. I had a career, and a future, and potential.”
“It was not something that I wanted, but it was something that I needed.”
“I refuse to allow anyone else’s…morality to force me into a life of premarital celibacy,” Milano continued.
“I would not have my children–my beautiful, perfect, loving, kind and inquisitive children who have a mother who was so very, very ready for them.”
“I would not have my career. I would not have the ability or the platform I use to fight against oppression with all my heart.
“I would never have met my amazing husband David who’s steadfast and immeasurable love sustains me through these terrifying times 15 years after that first love fizzled. My life would be completely lacking all its great joys.
“I would never have been free to be myself.”
Catholic Church teaching on abortion
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception.
“From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.”
“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.”
“Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense.” (CCC 2270-2272)
