Happy New Year, ChurchPOP readers!

I could not think of a better way to start 2024 than striving for sainthood. If you hope to improve your faith this year, you’re not alone.

Here are five New Year's resolutions to help increase your daily faith life!

1) Dedicate Time to Pray

This sounds simple, but we can easily neglect praying due to busy schedules or just plain forgetfulness.

Whether it is praying a daily rosary before bed, participating in a special novena, or reading sacred scripture and meditating on the passages, the choice is yours.

In fact, attending adoration consistently is also a great way to have one-on-one time with the Lord.

A very good friend of mine shared the Litany of Trust and it has quickly become my favorite way to start my day. If you find that you lack time to incorporate prayer throughout the day, setting aside ten minutes may be your answer!

The more you pray, the Lord will continue to touch your heart, and soon enough, you’ll find yourself wanting to spend more time with Him!

2) Listen to a Catholic Podcast

We become what we consume.

It is no secret that Father Mike Schmitz has gained massive popularity for his two incredible podcasts, "The Bible in a Year" and "The Catechism in a Year" via Ascension Press.

If you haven’t listened to either, I recommend you start with "The Bible in a Year" and follow along. Some other podcasts that have helped my faith life are the "Ask Christopher West Podcast" and the "Restore the Glory Podcast."

Christopher West, the co-founder of the Theology of the Body Institute, dives into human sexuality, personal relationships, vocations, and commonly asked questions he and his wife, Wendy receive.

Restore the Glory Podcast is hosted by Dr. Bob Schuchts and Jake Khym, which provides “A practical discussion where two former therapists share what they learned professionally and experienced personally about the healing and restoration of our God-given glory.”

The Word on Fire Show with Bishop Robert Barron and Pints with Aquinas with Matt Fradd are also incredible picks!

3) Learn About the Saints

The saints' lives are so diverse that they each glorified God in such unique ways. The path to sainthood looks different for everyone, so what better way to be inspired?

Their lessons are timeless and they teach us how to dedicate ourselves to Christ amid struggle, how to live joyous lives, and as a bonus, they intercede for us. So pick up some quality saint books and get to know your new heavenly friends!

4) Go to Confession and Mass Regularly

The Lord wants us to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist as often as possible and as Catholics, we have an obligation to attend weekly Sunday (or Saturday vigil) Mass.

To prepare for Mass, we should make an effort to examine our consciences and receive confession regularly. We all fall short but the Lord is ready and waiting to embrace you.

5) Fellowship

This is an important one!

Make time for Christ-centered friendships. Set aside time for a meal, coffee, or even a phone call with friends who understand your faith journey. We are not meant to go through this life alone, and fellowship with others who have Christ at the center of their lives will inspire you both.

Idea: Get coffee with a loved one after mass!

Make 2024 the year you prioritize your faith.

Just remember, each day is a new opportunity to start again!
