Is saying "I do" the secret to surprising spiritual treasures?
In this episode of "The Catholic Gentleman," John Heinen, Devin Schadt, and Sam Guzman discuss how marriage enriches Catholic life. The gentlemen unpack three joys of sacramental marriage—and why it’s worth fighting for in today’s culture.
Here’s what they had to say!
1) Marriage Strengthens Faith & Builds Character
Marriage offers us a profound spiritual training ground. “Marriage is really the closest thing to Heaven we can experience here on Earth," Heinen says.
By embracing the sacrament of matrimony, spouses can become conduits of God’s grace together, helping each other draw closer to Christ and the eternal love shared by the Holy Trinity.
2) Married People Are Happier, Healthier & More Stable
Statistics suggest married people are more likely to experience happiness, enjoy greater financial stability, and have better long-term health.
According to sociology research, “the greatest predictor of satisfaction in life is marriage,” Schadt shares.
Marriage inspires us to take responsibility and grow, providing security and fulfillment that far outweigh any fleeting worldly pleasures.
3) Family Life Offers Unmatched Fulfillment
Children can give their parents a unique glimpse into God’s immense love.
“Nothing in this world can compete with my three-year-old grabbing my face and saying, ‘Daddy, I love you.’ That’s where true joy and happiness comes from,” Guzman says.
Any sacrifices made in parenthood will ultimately pale in comparison to the unrepeatable blessings Catholic spouses experience in raising children and creating a “love that endures forever,” he says.
The gentlemen believe that marriage is one of the most powerful ways to holiness, happiness, and purpose in life!
