Ready to “raise” heaven-bound children right in your own home?
In this episode of "The Catholic Gentleman," John Heinen, Devin Schadt, and Sam Guzman discuss the beauty and responsibility of guiding young souls closer to God.
Here’s their advice for Catholic families striving for holiness!
1) Show Faith & Love Everyday
Children learn through imitation, and your actions often speak louder than your words. That’s why it's important to live out your faith visibly in everyday life.
“They’re always watching what you do far more than what you say. You can say all the right things, but if you're not living your life in accord with those truths, they're going to pick up on it,” Guzman says.
Small acts of kindness, integrity, and faithfulness to your vocation provide a living example of how to embody Catholic values.
2) Create a Prayerful Home
A home steeped in prayer is a wonderful way to nurture children’s spiritual growth.
Heinen reminds parents: “We have this opportunity to raise our kids rightly in a fertile ground, unlike anything other, inside the protective walls of the home.”
Praying as a family, incorporating devotions like the Rosary, and celebrating the liturgical seasons together can grow a love for God that children carry throughout their lives.
3) Integrate Traditions into Family Life
Introducing Catholic traditions, whether through feast day celebrations, sacred art, or reading Scripture, reinforces a sense of Catholic identity.
“We are called to be the voice, the face, the touch of the Father that our children cannot see, cannot hear, cannot feel,” Schadt says.
This helps children connect with the rich treasures of our faith and invites them to encounter God in meaningful ways.
The gentlemen say these aren’t just suggestions—they’re opportunities to lead your children closer to God!
