Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother Maria Dolores dos Santos Viveiros da Aveiro presented Pope Francis with one of her son’s jerseys during the Feb. 9 Wednesday papal audience.
Ronaldo is considered one of the best soccer players of all time, and has second-most followed Instagram account in the world. He is also a practicing Catholic.

“I am Catholic and I go to thank God for everything he gives me,” Ronaldo said in 2018. “I don’t ask for anything, thanks to God I have everything, I simply thank him for protecting my family and friends.”
Dolores gifted the pope with her son’s personal No. 7 jersey.

Pope Francis reportedly loves soccer.
“I would like to see young men and women’s efforts in sports, because sports are a marvel,” the pope said. “Sports bring out the best in us. Continue with this, because it’s very noble.”
The pope will include Ronaldo’s jersey in his collection featured in the Vatican museums.
