This is shocking!

The upcoming pro-life movie “Unplanned,” which focuses on Abby Johnson’s incredible conversion story, received an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association of America for “some disturbing/bloody images.”

The faith-based movie contains limited violence and bloody images, according to the MPAA’s regulations.

“Unplanned” writers and directors Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman told MovieGuide that “Unplanned is an ‘R’ rated film which has no MPAA cautions for profanity, nudity, sex or violence…except for violence directly associated with the abortion process.

“Ironically, the MPAA seems to be indirectly endorsing the pro-life position: namely that abortion is an act of violence.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Solomon and Konzelman also complained to the MPAA:

“We consider the MPAA’s current standards to be deeply flawed, insofar as they allow scenes of remarkably graphic sex, violence, degradation, murder and mayhem to have a PG-13 rating, whereas our film, highlighting the grave dangers of abortion in a straightforward manner, is considered dangerous for the American people to view.”

Other pro-life advocates and supporters of the movie also explained their take on the rating.

“Teenagers can get abortions without parental consent, but can’t go see this movie without a parent.”

While there is a possibility that the MPAA indirectly supported the pro-life position with its R-rating, this has created an uproar within the pro-life community for valid reasons.

On her Facebook page, Abby Johnson said, “Teenagers can get abortions without parental consent, but can’t go see this movie without a parent. Let that sink in. WHY is it rated R? For Violence. Let that sink in even further.

“This movie WILL change the way we view and understand abortion in this country…it already is!

“And FYI, my 12 year old has seen the film. Let’s pray this doesn’t deter parents from taking their kids to see the truth that is presented in ‘Unplanned.'”

Actress Ashley Bratcher, who plays Abby Johnson in the film, recently appeared in an interview with Fox News.

She said, “The only thing that they could give us an ‘R’ for is violence – so that means that they agree that abortion is a violent and disturbing act.”

The movie’s Twitter account also posted a response to the rating, saying, “What is the “R” rating about? Radical redemption. If the #prolife movement has a corneRstone, this is it – and it is the core of #UnPlanned

Other pro-life organizations, such as Live Action,  also responded to the rating saying, “Terrible: The powerful, pro-life @UnplannedMovie has received an R-rating from the @MPAA just weeks before it is expected to open in theaters nationwide.”

A 15-year-old Twitter user also presented her personal input.

“I’m 15. I can’t go see @UnplannedMovie without parental consent, but where I live, I can get an abortion without parental consent.

“If you don’t see the problem with that, then you’re a part of it.”
