There is a “very high” chance that Rome will be attacked by terrorists, warns Italian security official Franco Gabrielli, pointing to Pope Francis and the Vatican as two potential targets.

“There is relentless propaganda,” Gabrielli told Italian news outlet il Giornale, referring to propaganda efforts of the Islamic State, “that identifies potential targets: the Vatican, Pope, Colosseum, for example.

To underestimate the threat today is a very serious mistake. I say this very bluntly: we will have to pay a price. We hope it will be as low as possible.

Nonetheless, Gabrielli recommends Italians continue to live their normal lives, saying that doing otherwise would let the terrorists win.

Pray for the safety of the Holy Father and all the people of Rome!
