  • 64 of the world’s 196 countries (or 32.7%) have religious symbols on their flags
  • 48% of the flags with religious symbols have Christian symbols
  • 33% of the flags with religious symbols have Islamic symbols
  • Only one country in the world has a Jewish symbol: Israel
  • The flags for Uruguay and Argentina include the image of a sun believed to be representative of the Incan sun god Inti
  • The Mexican flag has the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli as an eagle perched atop a cactus with a snake in its beak
